This website and podcast is for listening and learning contra dance music. The Open Band, plays contra dance music: a mix of Irish reels, jigs, polkas, French Canadian tunes, old time mountain music, rags and more. The Open Band has some of Washington DC’s best musicians and they make new musicians feel very welcome. You can hear the Open Band at Maryland’s Glen Echo Park on the 2nd Friday of every month in the Spanish Ballroom. Anyone can join the Open Band, just show up with an instrument around 8pm ready to have the time of your life!
